I have listed what I picked up in the books on looks here. But I would like to go further into this as I also saw a reader rising the question on the Zeven Zussen Forum on Facebook.

Ok, so back to the topic – is it possible that Laurent Brouilly (Maia’s grandfather) who we know knows Pa Salt as the boy in Paris, Baroness von Gottfried (which Jens had a thing with in Leipzig), Marina and Zed Eszu are all related?
Similar looks, origin and characteristics?
Baroness von Gottfried was born somewhere in the 1800’s, had an affair with Jens around 1877. The restaurant where Anna saw Jens eating with Baroness von Gottfried was where the aristocratic people used to gather. She had a chateau near Versailles – and Anna thinks she looks Roman with her big nose. Marina, Laurent and Zed are all later described as having aquiline features, but also Roman and Eagle like, which I believe are all the same? Can they all be related?
Is this the key to why Pa salt might have taken Marina in or saved her/ shown kindness to her all those years ago?
Laurent Brouilly, Maia’s grandfather, had an aquiline nose and full lips. With strong features, gallic looking. He has chestnut hair, green eyes and full lips.
Born either late 1800 or early 1900, in France. He was the oldest son of an aristocrat with a Chateu near Versailles. He gave up on his inheritance for his love of arts. He was the one that told Pa Salt about the seven sisters in November 1929. His father also kept a telescope in one of the attic rooms on the top of their chateau. Just like Pa Salt has on Atlantis! Could Baroness von Gottfried be his mother or maybe even better in terms of age – be Laurent’s grandmother?
Marina has strong aquiline features. She is tall, has dark hair, brown or green eyes (depending on the version of the book). Born somewhere between 1937 and 1947 in Paris, France. She is also described using the words Roman and Eagle like. She believes in faith and a higher power to lead their lives and said, “it happened to me, for sure” and “the kindness of strangers”. Could she be related to Laurent? Possibly his niece or so?
Did Pa Salt “save” her like Laurent “saved” Pa Salt when he was a little boy in Paris? Based on her description in the books, I get the sense she is from a well off family originally, she cannot cook and is described as being a food snob. Does not like cold, just like Zed Eszu.
Zed Eszu is shorter than average, with broad shoulders, deep set eyes and with aquiline features. Born around 1974. Speaks English, Russian and French, but German is his native language.
Could Marina be his mother, and Kreeg Eszu’s ex wife (the one that was born before 1947 and died somewhere between 1977 and 1987 in a skiing accident)? If Marina is Zed’s mother, maybe she faked her death to get away from him, and Pa Salt helped her hiding at Atlantis?

With Zed’s native language being German, I really thought at some point we’d have a connection emerge to Claudia and/or Georg.
Height can be quite a heritable trait. So, just to add to the pile of question marks:
Gustavo Aires Cabral is also noted by Izabela as being shorter than average (he’s shorter than she is), and Theo is described by Ally as “positively diminutive” in comparison to most sailors.
If Marina is relaxed to Laurent, then she is also related to Maia, a great-aunt or something like that…
Yes, exactly! I think Maurina also has an interesting backstory.. She could easily also be aristocratic with her refined ways 🙂
Marina can’t be Zed’s mother because Kreeg divorced her only when Zed was a teenager. Marina was already in Atlantis to nurse baby Maia, who was born only a few years after Zed.
But Marina definitely has a past that’s somehow related to Pa Salt. And Christian keeps some secrets too. His behaviour in Paris when he met Electra was suspicious. Was Pa Salt actually still alive, on his lifelong search to find out Elle’s fate, therefore left the issue of finding his own daughter to his lawyer? And where was Georg Hofmann? Could it be that he did some unfinished business for Pa Salt, namely giving Zed his reckoning as prophesied by Chilly?
Hi Anna! I think you are right on Marina not having been Kreeg’s wife (or Zed’s mother). But I really look forward to hearing more about her backstory as I am sure it contains loads of interesting things, and yes Pa Salt definitely plays a part in it. I don’t think they are related though, but I don’t think you believe so either? 🙂 Yes, that was super strange, nd also that she could smell his scent in the car later.. i was wondering, as the apartment Electra stayed in when she went to Paris as a young girl, was close to where Christian was sitting right? I think Marina had helped Electra back then, waas it her apartment, and is it then possible that Pa Salt is staying there maybe? If he is alive that is.. i think i need to dive back into the books..
Any connection to Helen, owner of the chateau that Marguerite visits in France?
yes, i also thought about that. But I believe her chateau is located in gigondas, and Laurent’s family lived close to Paris, in a chateau near versailles.
is the chateau where helen, marguerite’s love lives, that not where Ally goes in the seventh book?
Perhaps, if Marina isn’t Zed’s mother directly, she could still be related to the family?
